Lakeview Oregon & The High Desert

Lakeview is the county seat of Lake County and bills itself as “The Tallest Town in Oregon” due to its elevation of 4,802 feet above see level. Sheep and cattle ranchers settle in this Southern Oregon more than 140 years ago in the 1870s. This stretch of highway 395 is known as the Oregon Outback Scenic Byway. Features such as the Warner Valley Mountains, Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, high-desert lakes make it a mesmerizing drive to take. Your sure to see great wildlife sights such as antelope, big horn sheep, sage grouse, deer, and more. You won’t miss Abert Rim north of Lakeview as it is the longest exposed fault scarp in North America and rise 2,500 feet over the valley’s floor.

Lakeview Oregon is located in the Goose Lake Valley at the feet of the Warner Mountains and on the edge of Oregon’s high desert country. It has a semiarid continental Mediterranean climate and gets plenty of sunshine and has some of the state’s largest solar fields. Lakeview’s economy is based on agriculture, livestock, government agencies, and lumber. Tourism is also becoming an important part of its local economy. Most recently Lakeview has gone to the forefront of renewable energy exploration including solar, biomass, and geothermal.
